We Bought a Fixer - Kitchen Complete!

Well hi. How are you?
It's finally time to show off our new kitchen. Yahoo!

When we bought this house, we knew we'd have to gut this kitchen.
It was awkwardly crammed into the corner of a really large living/dining space.
And why was that island so damn close in?

So as you recall, we took down this half wall.........

......and closed in this window.

Behold....The Kitchen!

The backsplash is a mix of colored glass and marble.
We love how it ties everything together and adds some texture to the space.

We love the butcher block island and sit here for most meals.

Our American Range is a thing of beauty and is awesome to cook on.
So happy to have a gas range again!

Our Home Depot pendant lights have a nice industrial look, capped off by swanky Edison bulbs.
Not very efficient but they are oh so pretty.

There's not a thing we'd change about this space.
We feel so lucky to have been able to create the kitchen of our dreams!

Until next week! Ta-Ta.

We Bought a Fixer - We have a Kitchen! (Almost)

Hi There. How are you?
Things are really starting to come together in the kitchen!

In a little over a week's time, our builders did all the electrical, hung the cabinets.......

...And tiled the floor with this gorgeous porcelain.

We're really excited about our island, which features an Ikea butcher block top.
(This was a bargain!)

And look at this mega apron sink! So pretty.
Now we're just waiting for the counter-tops to be fabricated.

In the mean time, we're tackling the paneling and fireplace in the dining room.
Stay tuned for a guest appearance by my parents in next week's blog!

 Ta-ta for now.

We Bought a Fixer - Enter the Pros

Hi there. How are you?

Work has officially begun on our kitchen. Hooray!
After weeks of DIY, I can't tell you how nice it is to have professionals on the job!

Blocking in the window was the first thing the pros tackled.
We hate to lose the light from a window,  but it was necessary to get the layout we wanted in the new kitchen.

On Monday, the cabinets were delivered. (Wellborn Barcelona Oak)

The lowers have a rich sienna stain.

The uppers have a lighter stain.  Don't you just love the grain?

These builders are moving fast!
All of the electrical, plumbing and subflooring was completed in just a few days.

The only work on the kitchen we had to do was paint the walls.
That was our homework last night.
The pros should be starting to tile and hang the upper cabinets today.

I leave you with some close-ups of our kitchen finishes.

Have a great day! Ta-ta.
