Lesson 1: The Color Wheel

Learn how to use color wheel to understand the relationships between colors.

Lesson 2: Analogous Colors

We start off easy, working with colors that are next to each other on the color wheel.

Lesson 3: Complementary Colors

Taking it up a notch, we learn how to use color opposites, which can be tricky.

Lesson 4: Triad Color Schemes

We add in a third color and discuss how to use yellow ballpoints.

Lesson 5: Monochromatic and More

Learn how to work with multiple versions of the same color, brown, and a fun compositional technique for working around a shape.

Lesson 6: Working with Black

Learn how to use the magical black ballpoint to cover up problem areas and enhance the contrast of any drawing.


Meet Your Instructor

Hi there. How are you? I'm Jennifer Johansson and I've been making and teaching art for almost 20 years. My current art tool of choice is the humble ballpoint pen. Over years of practice, I developed a unique, abstract drawing style that people really respond to. As I’ve been out of the classroom for going on 7 years now, It’s been great to dip my toe back into teaching again in this virtual venue. It’s a joy share my skills with students from all over the world!

Who is this course for? This course is for anyone with a interest to learn a unique ballpoint pen drawing technique. If you're willing to put in the time and the practice, you can learn how to draw abstractly with a ballpoint pen. *It is recommended that you take the initial “Jen & Ink” course before tackling this one.

How long will I have access to the course materials? Forever! 

What materials do I need? I’ll go into specifics in the class, but check out this blog post where I share my faves.

What if I need help or advice?  I have created a private Facebook Group for all course members to join. In the group, you can ask questions and share your work.
