I've done a lot of reading this summer. Where'd You Go Bernadette by @mariasemple was highly recommended to me. I just was that the movie adaptation staring Cate Blanchett opens this weekend. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I've heard that people laughed their way through this book. I did not. Bernadette is a creative suffering from depression. Been there. Am there. Mental illness is no joke. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Though there is humor in the book, to me it was touching and in the end, an uplifting story about love, work, family and creativity. Bernadette finds herself again in the most outlandish of ways. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Go read the book before you see the movie. The water has always been my happy place. There’s a calm I feel on the water that I don’t feel anywhere else. I spent the weekend right here in this beautiful place, with my family. For a short while, the pain I’ve been feeling so deeply lately was washed away. How lucky I feel to have the love and support of family. I don’t know where I’d be right now without them.
Here's an experiment with the aqua-like Bic Cristal pen that came in a set I purchased from the UK. I added a little black and yellow to enhance the depth. I did most of this drawing in the back of #YoshiTheBus while we were driving home from the Dead show.
